Since he joined AEW in February 2021, Paul Wight has been making fewer in-ring appearances, most likely due to injuries and surgeries he has gone through. This wrestling legend has gone through some rigorous surgeries, including surgeries on both hips and knees, which have understandably taken a toll on his in-ring appearances.
Wight’s latest wrestling engagement took place earlier in January 2024, where he appeared on the Jericho Cruise. During the event, he paired up with Mike Bailey and Chris Jericho to compete in a six-man tag team event. Since the event, he has not taken any wrestling matches, and his last wrestling engagement was on AEW Dynamite in November 2023.

Without consistent activity within the ring, Wight has shifted his work to other forms of screen time outside of professional wrestling. He has often been featured as a commentator and special guest for various AEW broadcasts like AEW Collision and pre-show broadcasts, as recently as an appearance from January 2026.

Even though Wight has been minimally physically involved, he has indicated that thoughts about retirement are not something on his mind currently. Towards the end of 2025, Wight disclosed that he underwent minor surgery on his back, but remains optimistic about entering the ring again in the near future. He remains still signed with AEW and remains interested in competing again.
This is because Wight recently posted, on social media, a video that told the story of his dramatic weight loss journey. The former world champion shed a decent amount of weight, indicating that his hope to return to the ring is around the corner. Wight hopes to shed at least 360 pounds.
