Kolkata rain- IndiGo issues travel advisory as rains disrupt city travel; one flight diverted

According to the Kolkata airport officials, only one flight operating between Pune and Kolkata was diverted to Bhubaneswar at 3 a.m., and all other flights were operating normally.

Kolkata rain- Heavy rains lashed Kolkata on Tuesday morning, flooding the city and bringing it to a standstill. Railway tracks and shops were inundated as continuous rainfall led to waterlogging in Howrah. Visuals from South Kolkata showed severe waterlogging after the incessant downpour. At least five people are reported to have died due to electrocution in Kolkata. In view of the situation, IndiGo Airlines issued a travel advisory for its passengers on Tuesday, stating that some routes across Kolkata were impacted.

“Some routes across #Kolkata have been impacted by heavy rain, leading to temporary blocks or diversions. We recommend planning your journey accordingly, and leave with a bit of extra time in hand. Please keep a tab on your flight status via our app or website before heading out. Our teams are working proactively to reduce any inconvenience and help you on your way. Thank you for your patience. We are here with you, every step of the way,” the travel advisory from IndiGo read.

In a separate post, the airline has advised its passengers to check the status of their flight before going to the airport and allow extra time for themselves for commutation due to likely slow traffic movement and waterlogging.

IndiGo wrote on X, “Heads up, #Kolkata travellers! Due to today’s downpour, several roads across #Kolkata are currently blocked or experiencing slow movement.  Please allow extra time, take an alternate route if possible, and check your flight status on our website or app before leaving for the airport. Our teams are working to keep things on track and support your journey. Thank you for continued trust and patience.”

A press release issued by the Eastern Railway (ER) stated that Howrah station yard, Sealdah South station yard, Chitpur North Cabin, and different car sheds were waterlogged due to the heavy rain. Hazarduari Express (13113) and Sealdah Jangipur Express (13177) trains were also cancelled due to waterlogging issues, while train movement was suspended in the Sealdah South. Metro services were also hit between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan.
