Kolkata Law College Gang Rape: A shocking twist to the alleged rape case at South Calcutta Law College has emerged on Wednesday. The Prime accused, Manojit Mishra’s lawyer, Raju Ganguly’s disgusting claims have come under fire. Raju has alleged that the scratch marks on his client’s neck were actually ‘love bites’.
Ganguly said that when he asked Mishra about the allegations made against him and regarding the scratch marks on his body, he denied having any. The lawyer told ANI, “I asked him what happened that he has such serious allegations against him. He told me that everyone is making him out to be a villain. I told him that it is being said that he has several scratch marks from nails on his body…He took off his shirt, I showed him one mark (points at the neck) and asked him what it is. He told me it is a ‘love bite’. When I asked him who gave him that, the Police took him away…I could not see any scratch marks from nails on him. I could see one mark (points at the neck).”
Ganguly further sparked criticism after he said that he has yet to conclude whether it is a rape case or not. Meanwhile, he also demanded that the victim’s mobile be seized and sent for forensic examination. “The phone of the victim should also be seized, sent to forensic, and the call record should be brought before the court…After seeing the records, I feel that perhaps this is not a rape case. I have not concluded, I would be able to tell you by 20th July whether this is rape or not, he said.”

About Case
A female student was allegedly gang-raped inside the South Calcutta Law College in Kolkata’s Kasba on Wednesday, June 25. The police have arrested four persons, including the main accused, and a five-member Special team has been formed to investigate the incident. Manojit Mishra along with his two other accomplices has been charged with rape. The incident happened on June 25 between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm.
The other rape accused were identified as Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukerjee (30). While Mishra and Ahmed were arrested on Thursday (26th June) based on the police complaint of the victim, Mukherjee was arrested on Friday (27th June). The incident that comes 10 months after the RG Kar hospital rape and murder case has triggered a major political row in West Bengal.
