Addressing a press conference, CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “First of all, I thank the people of Maharashtra. The people of the state have given massive support to the BJP and the Mahayuti. I had already predicted that out of all the municipal council chairpersons elected, 75% would be from the Mahayuti, and the people have delivered exactly that verdict. It has also become clear that the Bharatiya Janata Party is the number one party. So far, around 129 municipal council chairpersons have been elected from the BJP. Together, all three alliance parties account for 75% of the city council chairpersons. In terms of corporators, the BJP has created a record: 3300 corporators have been elected. This shows the massive public support we have received.”
The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), includes Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP, and Congress. The elections were held in two phases – 263 bodies voted on December 2, while the remaining 23 councils and some vacant posts went to the polls on Saturday due to court-mandated delays.

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut criticised the conduct of recent local body elections in Maharashtra, alleging that they have become more of an auction than a democratic process. He claimed that money was used to buy votes and that power was misused during campaigning. Raut also expressed surprise at the involvement of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Ministers in local elections, saying that municipalities with budgets of around Rs 30 crore saw campaign spending of nearly Rs 150 crore. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday congratulated BJP and NDA workers for the Mahayuti’s decisive victory in the Maharashtra municipal council and nagar panchayat elections. He described the win as a sign of public trust in the alliance and said it reflects confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. He also thanked voters for supporting the Mahayuti and contributing to its success.
As counting continues in the Maharashtra local body elections, the ruling Mahayuti alliance has comfortably crossed the 200-seat mark. The NCP registered a strong showing, winning 16 of the 27 seats in Lonavala, while its candidates Vanashree Sameer Shegde and Dhananjay Munde secured victories in Rohiya and Parli respectively, with Shegde winning by a margin of 4,500 votes. Meanwhile, a recount of votes was ordered in the Kamptee municipal council polls in Nagpur district after the Congress objected to BJP candidate Ajay Agrawal’s 116-vote victory. Maharashtra minister Shivendrasinh Bhosale also claimed that BJP candidate Amol Mohite was elected municipal president in Satara district by a margin of 42,000 votes, a result that surpassed margins typically seen in assembly elections.
