‘The war will continue until…’: Iran issues direct warning to US and lays down two major conditions

Iran says it is ready to end the war with the US, but only if sanctions are lifted and it is compensated for damages.

The United States appears ready to bring the ongoing conflict with Iran to an end. US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran no longer wants to continue the war and is instead seeking a settlement. According to him, Washington is currently in talks with Iranian leadership regarding a possible ceasefire, and the discussions have been ‘productive.’

However, Iran has dismissed Trump’s claims as false. Tehran has alleged that such statements are being made to manipulate global markets and shape international perception of the conflict.

This raises a key question: Is Iran truly unwilling to end the war, especially at a time when several of its top leaders have reportedly been killed?

Iran open to ending war, but with conditions

Despite rejecting Trump’s claims, Iran has now indicated that it is also willing to end the conflict with the US and Israel, but not without conditions.

Tehran has made it clear that the war will continue unless:

  • All sanctions imposed on Iran are lifted
  • The United States compensates Iran for damages caused during the war

Iran is seeking full compensation for its losses and wants all economic sanctions removed. It has stated that if these demands are met, it will agree to end the war and accept a ceasefire.

Will Donald Trump accept Iran’s terms?

The big question now is whether the US will agree to these conditions.

A senior Iranian official has said that the end of the war lies in Iran’s hands. According to the official, Iran will only consider the conflict over if it receives full compensation and guarantees that the US will not interfere in its affairs in the future.

This statement comes at a time when President Trump has said he is considering ways to ‘bring the war to an end.’

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has temporarily eased some restrictions on Iranian oil exports in an attempt to stabilise global oil prices. This move could bring around 140 million barrels of oil into the market. Iran, however, views this as a sign of its strength and remains firm on its demands.

What did Iran’s Foreign Minister say?

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reiterated that the war was initiated by the United States and that Washington must take responsibility for its consequences.

He emphasised Iran’s key demands:

  • Compensation for war damages
  • Withdrawal of US military bases from the region
  • Guarantees against any future attacks

Iran has clearly stated that without these conditions, it will not accept any ceasefire.

Trump’s claims on backchannel talks

On Monday, Donald Trump refused to reveal the identity of the Iranian leader with whom the US is allegedly in talks to end the conflict, which has been ongoing for the past three weeks.

He described the negotiator as a ‘top figure’ and someone who is ‘highly respected’ within Iran.

While Iran has denied holding direct talks with the US, it has acknowledged that some countries in the region are trying to mediate and reduce tensions.

White House responds to Islamabad meeting speculation

Amid reports of possible diplomatic efforts, news agency ANI reached out to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt regarding speculation that US Vice President JD Vance, special envoy Steve Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner might meet Iranian officials in Islamabad this week.

Responding to the query, Leavitt said:
‘These are sensitive diplomatic discussions and the United States will not negotiate through the press. This is an evolving situation and speculation about meetings should not be considered final unless officially announced by the White House.’
