Bihar Government Formation highlights: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is all set to be elected as the leader of the NDA ahead of the formation of a new government under his leadership in the state on November 20. Nitish, who will take oath as Bihar CM for a record 10th time, will be first elected as leader of the JD(U) legislature party and after that, the leader of the NDA, before tendering his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan as head of the outgoing government.
Bihar Election Result 2025
The NDA secured an easy victory in the 2025 Bihar elections. The front won 202 of the 243 seats. The Mahagathbandhan secured 35 seats. In the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 89 seats, Janata Dal (United) won 85, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) (LJPRV) won 19, Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) (HAMS) won five, and Rashtriya Lok Morcha won four seats.
Mahagathbandhan: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) won 25 seats, the Indian National Congress six, the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) [CPI(ML)(L)] two, the Indian Inclusive Party (IIP) one, and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] one seat. All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) secured five seats, while the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) won one seat.
Bihar government Oath Ceremony Date
Bihar Government Formation highlightsNitish Kumar is all set to take oath as Bihar CM for a record 10th time tomorrow, November 20. The oath ceremony will take place at around 11:30 at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. He will be submitting a letter of support from all alliance partners of the NDA to the governor for the formation of the new government. The current assembly will be dissolved on Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, Nitish Kumar took stock of preparations for the oath-taking ceremony. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several other Union ministers and CMs of NDA-ruled states are expected to attend the ceremony. A large number of security personnel have been deployed in the state capital and around Gandhi Maidan, where the event will be held.

BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy on Wednesday evening said that the coming days would mark a historic moment for Bihar.
“For the first time in the history of Bihar, India, and even the world, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will be sworn in for the tenth time. This is truly historic for the state. Prime Minister Modi will be arriving tomorrow… it’s going to be a landmark day,” Rudy said.
Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda extended his congratulations to the NDA leadership on their victory in Bihar, ahead of the swearing-in of the new state cabinet scheduled for tomorrow.
“Prime Minister Modi will also attend the ceremony. I congratulate the leaders on their win,” Deputy CM Jagdish Devda said while praising the Bihar leadership.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected as Leader of the NDA legislature in Patna Today.
He was elected in a meeting of NDA legislators held at the Central hall of the State Legislature. NDA legislators will soon be heading Towards the Raj Bhawan to stake a claim to form the government.

JD(U) legislature party meeting ended on Wednesday afternoon, state minister and JD(U) MLA Zama Khan said that Nitish Kumar has done a “ great job” for 20 years, as per ANI.
"He (Nitish Kumar) has done a great job for 20 years, he has done development... Bihar will progress again under his leadership...They (the opposition) say anything when they don't win.... The oath will be taken," Khan added.
