India’s star badminton player PV Sindhu is currently stranded at Dubai Airport. Following the US and Israeli missile attacks on Iran, tensions in the region have escalated, leading to a temporary suspension of all flights in Dubai. Sindhu was on her way to play the All England Open in Birmingham, but her trip was cut short.
All flights halted at Dubai Airport
According to a Reuters report, all flights from Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport have been suspended until further notice. Last year, Dubai Airport handled approximately 100 million passengers. Authorities have urged passengers not to travel to the airport.
Airlines also suspended services
Emirates has suspended all flights due to regional airspace closures. Flydubai has also suspended its services completely. Etihad Airways has announced a temporary suspension of all flights departing from Abu Dhabi. This has significantly impacted international travel.
Sindhu’s message on social media
PV Sindhu shared a video of the airport on Instagram, writing, “All flights suspended until further notice.” Her post quickly went viral, and people expressed concern.
Other Indian teams also stranded
Not only Sindhu, but the Indian senior men’s basketball team is also stranded in Doha, Qatar. The team had gone to play the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Asian Qualifiers.
Impact on the All England Open
The All England Open is scheduled to begin on March 3. This is a highly prestigious badminton tournament. Given the current situation, it is unclear whether Sindhu and other players will be able to reach their destinations on time.
