Union Budget 2026: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her ninth consecutive budget and the third full budget of the Narendra Modi-led government on Sunday, announcing a slew of measures for targeted tax reforms designed to ease compliance and offer relief to small taxpayers.
Here’s what gets cheaper and what gets costlier after Union Budget 2026;
What gets cheaper?
Based on announcements made in the Budget document, cancer drugs, seafood, EV batteries, smartphones, and sports equipment are expected to get cheaper in FY26-27. Additionally, overseas education and tour packages may also see a significant price cut, while leather goods are also expected become cheaper.

- Sports equipment

What gets costlier?
Luxury items like premium watches and imported alcohol will get costlier, while tobacco products like pan masala and cigarettes may also witness a price hike.
Additionally, misreporting income tax and non-disclosure of movable assets would now invite harsher fiscal penalties, while stock trading also gets costlier.

Notably, the government did not introduce any sweeping changes in income tax relief for the middle class and salaried individuals as tax slabs remain unchanged in Union Budget 2026.
