New Delhi: India defeated New Zealand in the final of the T20 World Cup 2026 to win the title, but during the match, an incident involving Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh drew attention. During the final, he threw the ball towards New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell, after which a brief exchange was seen on the field. The ICC has now taken action regarding this matter.
Arshdeep Singh Fine: ICC deducts 15 percent of match fee
The ICC has taken disciplinary action against Arshdeep Singh by imposing a fine of 15 percent of his match fee. This decision was taken after the incident that occurred during the T20 World Cup 2026 final. The umpire had also warned Arshdeep during the match regarding this matter.
Level 1 breach of ICC Code of Conduct
According to the ICC, Arshdeep Singh was found guilty of breaching Article 2.9 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This rule relates to throwing the ball or any other cricket equipment at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match.
Arshdeep Singh Demerit Point: One point added to record
After this incident, one demerit point has also been added to Arshdeep Singh’s disciplinary record. This is considered his first offence in the last 24 months. However, this action had no impact on India’s victory, and the team won the title with an excellent performance.
