ISRO’s LVM3-M5 successfully launches 4,410 kg CMS-03 satellite, showcasing heavy-lift capabilities

The mission marks another major achievement for India’s space program, demonstrating the country’s growing capabilities in heavy-lift launches. This was the fifth operational flight of LVM3 launch vehicle.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday, November 2, successfully launched the communication satellite CMS-03 aboard the LVM3-M5 rocket. The liftoff occurred at 5:26 pm after a smooth countdown, with all systems nominal and weather conditions favourable. The launch took place from the Second Launch Pad (SLP) at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

The mission marks another major achievement for India’s space program, demonstrating the country’s growing capabilities in heavy-lift launches. CMS-03 is the first satellite weighing over 4,000 kg to be launched into a distant geosynchronous transfer orbit from Indian soil. This was the fifth operational flight of LVM3 launch vehicle carrying the CMS-03 communication satellite. Until now, ISRO relied on foreign private space agencies to launch its heavier satellites. The current mission marks a significant milestone in India’s space capabilities, showcasing the growing strength of the LVM3 launch vehicle.
