Is haze in Delhi-NCR caused by ‘petrol rain’ in Iran?
A light haze covered Delhi-NCR, triggering concerns among residents about the worsening pollution levels. Some users claimed that the hazy conditions are linked to a chemical fallout after a refinery strike or ‘petrol rain’ in parts of Iran. The India Meteorological Department (IMD), however, clarified that the hazy conditions were caused by dense fog, not air pollution.
What do weather experts say?
According to weather experts, this phenomenon in North India is mainly caused by dust carried by strong winds from dry regions or a combination of meteorological factors. Such conditions resulted in fog and impacted visibility across Delhi-NCR and western Uttar Pradesh this morning. In fact, such weather conditions are not unusual.
