Bengaluru Couple Suicide Case: Shocked by his wife’s suicide two days ago, a 36-year-old man travelled from Bengaluru to a hotel in Nagpur and ended his life on Saturday after undertaking a 1000 km road ride. According to reports, his mother, who accompanied him on the circuitous journey, also attempted suicide and is currently under serious condition.
Man kills self in Maharashtra
The man, identified as Suraj Shivanna, died by hanging himself early Saturday, two days after his wife Ganvi died in Bengaluru on December 25. Following her death, Suraj was accused of allegedly driving her to suicide.
Suraj, a franchise owner of an online delivery service, fled with his family to Bengaluru on the same day his wife committed suicide. He stopped over for a while in Hyderabad before heading to Nagpur on Friday evening, where they checked into their two hotel rooms.
Mother attempts suicide, condition remains critical
Suraj’s mother, Jayanti, found son hanging in the hotel room around 12.30 am. Shocked by his death, she also attempted to end her life, but survived as the noose snapped. Suraj was rushed to AIIMS-Nagpur, where doctors declared him dead. Meanwhile, Suraj’s elder brother, Sanjay, told police that the family was forced to flee due to threats from Ganavi’s family.
“Around 30 people stormed our house searching for Suraj, who was named in an FIR for dowry harassment. We were traumatised and in fear,” TOI quoted Sanjay as saying.
Newlyweds cut short honeymoon in Sri Lanka
Ganavi, an MBA graduate, got married to Suraj on October 29 in Bengaluru. The couple traveled to Sri Lanka for their honeymoon, but had to return following a dispute. Meanwhile, Ganavi’s family alleged that they took her back home after she faced “rejection and humiliation” from her in-laws. She died by suicide on Thursday.
